Who I am and where I am going

WHO AM I?
Learning About the World Around Me
I have always enjoyed learning, especially when it challenges what I know. From kindergarten to 12th grade, I had been a boy scout. I worked all the way up to the rank of eagle scout, the highest rank you can achieve. Along the way, I saw how important it was to work with others, not only to get things done, but also to learn about how to get things done. My education will never stop. I joined up with the College Park Media Scholars program because I believe that media is the best way to learn about the world. More importantly, I wanted a chance to engage with students that had different viewpoints on the world. Why did I want this? Interacting solely with people that think like myself would give me a very ignorant opinion on how the world thinks. Staying in my comfort zone doesn’t allow me to cultivate my critical thinking or argumentative skills; neither does never talking about issues I care about. That goes for college and life. I saw the chance to explore in Media Scholars. Through it, I want to not only learn, but also challenge myself to break down problems in new ways. Media is so complex, and I want to explore that complexity using the tools that Media Scholars and College Park provide. - November 14, 2020
